SNA lovers,
have
you ever came across that saying “What a small world?”. Well, here is
the man who actually mathematically modelled the small world phenomenon:
Meet mathematical starlight Jon Kleinberg,
who focusses his brilliant brain on network analysis from a computer
science perspective.
Kleinberg
developed the so called HITS algorithm for web search, based on the
Eigenvector method. Basically, this underpins that on the web it is not
only important that you are linked to others,
but also that others are linked to you. Rumor has it that Kleinberg´s
work inspired Larry Page and his program PageRank, which is Google´s
underlying search algorithm.
In
2006, the professor at Cornell University stated at a conference in
Washington that social networks and technology networks become more
intertwined due to the rapid technological advances:
“We´re really witnessing a revolution in measurement”, he said in 2006 –
clearly a forward thinker.
His
latest book, published in 2010, is an introductory book about networks:
“Networks, Crowds, and Markets: Reasoning About a Highly Connected
World”, which he wrote with his colleague David
Easley for undergrad students
