Supporting knowledge creation and sharing in social networks

The world we are now living in and the industries we are engaged in are knowledge-based. It's not too much to say that there is no business or no organization which is not involved in or based on knowledge and information. Therefore, the more knowledge and information , an organization has, the more profits it makes. Moreover, there is no organization who owns every knowledge and information they need, and can create, either. In other words, an organization who knows how to create and get the needed knowledge and information, and even how well to share internally will defininately win in the competition and get to a success.

When we need information, we usually think of and turn to the Internet, intranets and portals, or books. But don't you think that sometimes we forget to think about one of the most important sources of all, which is people.

If you read the following article written by Cross & Parker, you can have an opportunity to think about knowledge creation and sharing in social networks, such as "Do i know what i know ?", "How to reach the right people", "Are knowledgeable people willing to engage?", and so on.

In this sense, let us think about our assignment topic, "By 2020, social networks will be recognized as the main drivers of organizational success(OS)".

According to Roger Ingbretsen, a consultant, whose article you can find at the following link, there are 7 drivers which lead to OS, such as organization's clear mission, compelling vision, solid strategy and so on.
http://www.evancarmichael.com/Leadership/1988/Seven-Drivers-of-Organizational-Success.html

But the subjects of all these drivers are also people, in whichever position they are and whatever job they do. People within an organization are the most important drivers which can the organization to a success, or even to a failure. How well people within an organization are motivated, share information, cooperate internally and externally can show how much they achieve by the performance. To make it feasible, social networking and networking management play important role.

Here at the following link, you can find some examples that shows how important and profitable social networks are in an organization, which is hospital and in general way.

In conclusion, by 2020, business situation will be getting more and more competitive. To do businesses, organizations will be more dependent on knowledge and information than now. Creating knowledge and sharing the knowledge will be also important for an organizaton to get to a success in doing business. And a good way to create and share the knowledge is social networking, which is on the Internet basis or on a face to face basis. Therefore, social networks will be an important success driver for an organization.

The WSJ article makes interesting points ab0ut the potential sustainability of networks. The Cross article is old (2001.) For his more current thinking, look at the book I assigned (2004) or his conference speeches from this past September on the HHL Intranet.
