Government official’s networking analysis for the action of Anti corruption in China

Blog Assignment: Government official’s networking analysis for the action of Anti corruption.

I am a business student who studies international marketing, but I am also very interested in politics. Because I believe without an enlightened political environment that it will be difficult to execute innovative, constructive and creative business ideas, which could potentially change the world and make it a better place to live.

China’s economic growth has reached a new phase that one of the challenges is to drop the country’s corruption rate. This is crucial for a further economic increase. But, more importantly this is the first step for China to have a better political environment that will enable people of China to enjoy the rights that they suppose to have. Moreover, since China’s role is being shifting globally that China must take its leadership responsibility.

l   Theory of how to apply SNA

China has about 6.5million government employment positions, which naturally appears to be a challenge to manage from a centralized power system. Due to this reason that anti corruption in China is difficult. By having the data of all the government officials from different hierarchy levels that the analyzer could identify who is the key person in the corruption network. This person could be someone inside or outside of the political system. By having this data set the anti corruption department of China could effectively find the suspects, therefore SNA could be a powerful tool.

l   Where to collect the data

Firstly, the data should include the government officials’ family members, especially their financial transaction records. Secondly, the data should also include the people they might know from the past. For instance, their classmates or previous colleagues who could be the beneficiaries within their political power. Thirdly, communication frequency can be measured by social networks channels, emails, phone calls, or third party observations.

l   Node attributes

The node should have the attributes of level hierarchy, gender, age, geography, and functionalities. On top of that the node should as well have the attributes of income, hobby, background,.etc.

During the data collection process that it might involve with privacy issues, the data collection approach should be conducted appropriately. Undoubtedly, SNA is a very powerful tool to address China' corruption problem, however the other concern is how determined the Government is. And the degree of execution.

Good start, but very high-level. Some specific examples, perhaps from other countries like the US, might have been helpful.
