Non-profit organizations around the world rely completely on volunteers to help them. Most of the times, it is very difficult to identify the right people who want to help. Even more the people who work as volunteers, do not get recognized and are not known by the organizations.

Problem statement: People who work as volunteers do not get recognized and cannot be used as part of Non-profit organization’s work force.

SNA can help to recognize the people who help the people in a region with volunteer or social work. We interview the people from these regions and based on the reply, we can identify the person who has been helping the people in the region.

The data I would need would be the frequency and the name of the person who has helped them.

The next data that I would need would be the name of the organization that they are associated with.

The biggest network measure will be the number of people who point towards the person who has helped them the most over the past months, and the organization that they are associated with.

The SNA will help me identify the person who is the most active in the region and if that person is associated with any organization. If that person is associated with an association or if more than one people are associated with the same organization, we can contact the organization. If the person is not associated with any organization, we have a person who has been working for people without being recognized.


This will give us an opportunity to work with the people who have been working without any requirement for recognition.

Start of a good idea, but it needs some refinement. I get that SNA can help to identify people to be recognized simply by pointing out the best-connected, but I need to know more about the association of people and organizations. If a person does good work, why does it matter if he/she are identified with an org.? Anyhow, there's a role for SNA here--just needs some more work, especially identifying the appropriate network measures. Maybe a real-world example would make it clearer.
