If we had unlimited resources, time, and access to information, Social Network Analysis would face following challenges.
- Too much info will bring confusion - which combination of indicator is the best choice?
- Information Accuracy – you need more time to evaluate information accuracy in order to get precise outcome.
In my understanding, a necessary data is all depend on what you want to see in you social network analysis because key attributes vary from your purpose. For example, when you seek people who influence others in social network, you need to find people who have high outbound degree or eigenvector. For people who want to reengineer their organization, degree and density level could be an important indicator. In this way, needed information is all depend on your objectives. On the other hand, information that is hard to get for your SNA might be information that is hard to quantify such as emotional level or personal information.
The SNA would tell you a lot of things to pursue organizational efficiency.
- Who is the key person in your organization?
- Who has a weak tie connection? – the best person to connect with outside
- Is there any inefficient communication between departments?
- Decision making process – is it too much or not enough.
- How to organize project team? Who is the person I am looking for?
- Where is a bottleneck in your organization?

I appreciate that you have a basic understanding of SNA tools and techniques, but I was looking for an SNA that you'd be interested in doing rather than a summary of what SNA can do in general.
